Beaches in Athens

Athens is not just city life and archeological monuments - there are also several nice beaches within easy reach from the city centre. We recommend the First beach in Voula, at the other end of the tram line to Voula leaving from Syntagma Square  A day trip by taxi or bus to Nea Makri is also highly recommended. Don’t miss out on the fabulous fish restaurants, just a few metres from the beach! A day-trip to the nearby islands of Egina, Poros and Hydra, all with splendid swimming opportunities, is also a great way to enjoy the Greek sun and sea.

   Transport in Athens

Thanks to the Olympic games of 2004 and all the infrastructure improvements, the public transport system - metro, trolley buses, buses and trams - is really good. It is easy to understand, it is cheap and deserves most areas of Athens and Pireaus. From Athens International Airport, you can go by bus or metro to Syntagma Square, a trip which takes around 50 minutes, and from there it is only a few minutes’ walk to our apartment.

   What to do in Athens

You haven’t really been to Athens if you haven’t climbed theAcropolis and theLykavittos hill and enjoyed the lovely view of our exciting Greek capital. Another must is of course a visit to the brand new Acropolis Museum. The ground floor is already open! Whether you want to splurge at Gucci in Kolonaki or check out some real bargains at the Monastiraki Flee Market, Athens is a great shopping destination. If you are visiting in the summer, don’t miss the Athens festival and the outdoor concerts at the Herodes Atticus amphitheatre, just a short walk from our apartment.

   Where to eat in Athens

TheGreek kitchen is well known for its delicious and healthy simplicity. There are of course restaurants for all tastes and wallets. We would be happy to share our experiences with you, in order to make your visit a culinary and healthy one!
